Well, I'm actually really pleased with the latest paintings I've listed. I've changed my technique somewhat and the paintings are coming together amazingly fast! I keep asking myself, why it takes me so long some times to change the way I do things!!?

I'm glad I decided to do something other than portraits for a little while as I'm really enjoying the challenge that comes from painting something that up until a couple of years ago, I would never have thought I was able to paint!!

Cheers Joá

The still life painting I listed this morning really came together so quickly, it even amazed myself! Before I knew it, it was completed and I had started another and then another and yes, I've almost completed the third ACEO card painting over the past day and a half.

For months, I've struggled to finish even one painting a day! It hasn't been anything about my ability, it's simply life itself that has gotten in the way!! Now that I've sorted a lot out in my life and am doing EXACTLY what I want to do with my life, my art can now take centre stage!

I've also noticed my 'eye' is back. I see what I want to paint and am able to transfer that to the paper so much quicker.

Anyway, this is my latest ACEO card, listed on eBay.com.au.

As I was working on these lastest paintings it occured to me that I really shouldn't be exclusively doing portraits. The only thing is, I'm so obsessed with hopefully perfecting portrait painting that I SIMPLY get carried away and it takes a while to break that mind set!

So, yesterday I started a still life which I will be posting tomorrow hopefully! I remember it was a still life charcoal drawing that was my first art class lesson many, many years ago. I felt completely overwhelmed by the other more experienced people in the class and half way through the class I felt like running from the room and never returning!! Then all of a sudden my teacher came over and tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Joá, step back from your paper and take a look at what you have so far". "ohhhhh my goodness!! did I do that?" So, still life paintings are something I really love doing as well!

The latest painting I've listed is the one I did for the 'Different Strokes from Different Folks' blog created by Karin Jurick. Am I happy with the painting? Well!!!!! The first one I started I spent half a day on it and it still looked like a shocker!! For some reason I just couldn't get my head around it! So, it was ripped in half and I started all over again! This time I went through a different thought process when deciding how I would structure the painting. Seeing I've been having quite a bit of success with my portraits, why I didn't think of doing a portrait in front of the Victorian house right from the start...........who knows!!?

I've been watching Karin's blog each day to see how the other artists interperate the photo to be painted. What an amazing variety of artists post on that blog! I'm sure everyone who has seen the blog has picked one or two they like the most, I certainly have.

Anyway, this is the finished painting. I'm now looking forward to the next challenge simply because there's no way of knowing what the subject matter will be and that in it's self is exciting!

Cheers!

ps.......I have to say thank you to a lovely lady who introduced me to Karin's blog, it's opened my eyes to so much in regards to art from all over the world! Thanks mate!!

My Passion in Life!

The title of this new blog really sums up what my life is all about!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only person who questions their own ability and why some paintings will sell faster than others. I read a post from a blog called 'Different Strokes from Different Folks', created by Karin Jurick. As I was reading her latest blog post, it was like as if I was reading my own thoughts!

I too wonder some times why, what I think is 'a damn good painting!' will sit there and sit there without a bid or a watcher. WHY? Can't people see how good that painting is? Maybe I could have done it better? Maybe it's not as good as I think it is! Why isn't there two or three people fighting over this painting? It's soooo frustrating when that happens!!

Luckily, for my sanity, it's happened a few times over the past couple of years since I started selling paintings, so now, I simply shrug it off and carry on with the next painting. I know it will sell, sooner or later! That doesn't mean it doesn't zap me of my enthusiasm for painting at times! It just means I have to once again, accept the fact that the public will buy what they like!

Anyway, these are my latest listings on ebay. I know there's quite a difference between all three!! I have ABSOLUTELY no idea most of the time what painting I will do next. It's the one that jumps out at me, that's the painting I will start.

Cheers Joá

ps......I can not believe I am about to list the 100th Portrait Painting I've done to sell on ebay!!!

Art! My way!

ACEO Paintings Listed on Ebay - 19 Jan 09

Study of Masterpiece - 'Renoir' - Young Girl in a Straw Hat - 1890

SOLD

Portrait Painting #98

SOLD

Well, I've listed another two paintings on Ebay this morning. I'm having pretty good success with the portraits I've listed over the past couple of weeks so have thought to myself, "better keep doing what the customers want!" The portrait I listed this morning is of an African Zulu woman. No, she's not the most attractive woman I've seen, but there's something about her face that compelled me to want to paint her.

I've also listed another 'Renoir' study. To think up until a couple of years ago, I had absolutely no idea what an amazing artist Renoir was and to now want to do a study of every painting he ever completed, is unbelievable!

Well, I should get back to work! Painting that is :)
